McMillan Award
The 2005 McMillan Staff Achievement Award will be presented at the Faculty's end of year function on December 7th.
The McMillan Award is presented to a general staff member to celebrate staff achievements and to recognise and reward excellence over a period of time based on particular criteria.
Nominations closed on November 28th, with a panel of representatives from all five schools and the three departments of the Faculty Office assessing the nominations and selecting a winner (or winners) at a meeting at Berwick on December 1st.
This will be our ninth award. Previous winners are:

‘Change of Preference' Campaign
The Marketing department has developed a campaign for the Change of Preference period for year 12 school leavers. This includes merchandise giveaways and targeted advertising through radio, cinema and internet.
On Sunday November 27 th , nearly 1000 ‘showbags' were distributed at Lorne for the last day of Schoolies. Showbags are also being distributed through Austereo's radio network, including through the “Black Thunder” mobile vehicles, and at shopping centres, cinemas and beaches around Melbourne.
All staff are welcome to a showbag on request from Marketing.

Coursework Masters Review Implementation Working Party
The Coursework Masters Review Implementation Working Party has now been appointed by the Senior Leadership Team. The Working Party will convene early December. Education Subcommittees (of the FEC)
The six Education Subcommittees (of the FEC) were established by the Faculty Board as part of the new academic governance structure on 10 June, 2005.
The six subcommittees are:
- Undergraduate Programs
- Undergraduate Honours
- Postgraduate Programs
- IT Common Core
- Education Quality
- Admissions and Credit transfer

Double degrees with the Arts Faculty
Course proposals for the double degrees with the Arts Faculty were passed in principle at the Faculty Board meeting on 21 September, 2005 . These degrees are managed by the Arts Faculty.

Departmental moves
In the area of student services and academic program services, the following Review recommendations have been implemented:
The Faculty Office Strategic Student Services has been established (located at Caulfield). This unit will deal with student services policy development, co-ordination of major student services processes and of timetabling, the maintenance of unit and course data into Callista (Data integrity officer role) and will represent the Faculty on university and faculty committees relating to Student Services.
Operational services to students, support to academics and to academic programs will be provided at School level, on each of the 5 campuses. This is already in place at all campuses, except for Caulfield.
The Clayton School of IT's Academic Program unit is located at two locations: The STRIP and at Bld 63, Ground Floor.
From Monday 28th November, the Caulfield School of IT's Academic Program unit will be located at two locations: The 7th Floor, Bld S (formerly SIMS office), and Bld C, 4th Floor (formerly CSSE office. This is a temporary arrangement until the Faculty moves to Bld H.

Marketing Feedback
The Marketing Department is grateful for the response to the invitation faculty-wide for feedback and ideas for marketing activity. Many have provided some useful insights that will form the basis of our marketing strategy into the future. Contributions up to the end of year break will be considered. The next opportunity to have your say will be October 2006.
