IBM University Jam 2009

IBM University Jam 2009

"IBM would like to inform Monash University about a University Jam IBM will be conducting in April. This would be an excellent opportunity for professors and students at Monash to participate in what we hope is a terrific 3-day interaction of the brightest minds in academia today.

"Leaders of businesses and academic institutions everywhere confront a unique opportunity to transform the way the world works. In the last few years, our eyes have been opened to global climate change, and to the environmental and geopolitical issues surrounding energy. We have been made aware of the vulnerability of global supply chains for food and medicine. We need innovative ideas and new approaches to these issues. In April 2009, IBM will convene a global dialogue on these topics via a "jam" - a large-scale web 2.0 approach for massive "on-line conversation" involving thousands of people.

"The IBM Smarter Planet University Jam will involve faculty and students from hundreds of universities worldwide, as well as other key stakeholders (select clients and partners, government officials, analysts) in a conversation about how technology can help build a Smarter Planet in areas such as energy, traffic, water, food, and healthcare.

"A Smarter Planet will be instrumented, interconnected, and intelligent. People want it - you can make it a reality.

"To get there, innovative ideas and new approaches are required. Take the challenge; help transform the way the world works."

An invitation to collaborate

"From April 21st to April 23rd, IBM will convene a 72-hour global online conversation (called a “Jam”) with faculty, students, IBM business leaders and technologists, and industry partners from across the globe on how technology and business can help build a Smarter Planet in areas such as:

"Remember, April 22nd is Earth Day. Take time out to interact, learn, share ... see you in the Jam!"
