Abstract:
Both knowledge in an organisation, and the transformation of the organisation are imperative for organisational survival in today’s competitive business environment. The junction of these two important, contemporary business phenomena is a relatively unexplored area of research and serves for a study of the changes to knowledge during transformation. The case study of a multinational post-acquisition integration reveals how the actions of integration managers, guided by an emergent strategic reorientation, impact upon knowledge that is deeply embedded in practice throughout the integrating firm. The task-based knowledge management (TbKM) approach serves as a lens for examining the phenomena, whilst a punctuated equilibrium model of organisational evolution is revealed to be a fitting conceptualisation of the research context.
