13 December 2000
The Australasian Computing Education Conference (ACE2000) is this year being hosted by Monash University. The event which is the fourth of its' kind, will be held at Mannix College at Monash University's Clayton campus from December 4th - 6th 2000.
The conference previously known as the Australasian Conference on Computer Science Education was this year renamed to encourage the inclusion of papers from IT areas other than computer science.
The programme which is sponsored by ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE), provides a forum for educators from all areas of computing to come together to share their experiences, ideas and research about computing education.
Submission papers are selected on the basis of the potential they have to enhance learning outcomes in computing courses.
Papers generally describe innovations in teaching computing across a diverse range of IT areas ranging from information systems to computer science.
This year 79 submissions were received, 37 of which have been accepted and will be presented at the conference. Six of these submissions have been received from overseas educators.
The three keynote speakers addressing the ACE2000 conference will be Nell Dale a Senior Lecturer in Computer Science at the University of Texas, the Dean of Monash's Faculty of Information Technology Professor John Rosenberg and Barry Jones.
The 7th annual " Women in Computing Forum - Managing your career" will also be held in conjunction with the ACE2000 conference.
