New Deputy Dean for Monash's Faculty of IT

Professor Gopal Gupta commenced in a newly created role as Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Monash University on October 7th 2002.

Professor Gupta has had a long and distinguished career that spans thirty years in information technology, research and education.

A senior lecturer in Computer Science at Monash from 1972 to 1986, Professor Gupta was formerly Head of the Department of Computer Science at James Cook University from 1986 until 1998, when he left to take a position as Dean of the Faculty of Information Technology at Bond University.

“The tremendous growth at the faculty of Information Technology since my early days at Monash as a senior lecturer and a PhD student is truly astounding,” said Professor Gupta, “Now there are almost eight times as many students.”

As Deputy Dean, Professor Gupta will take particular responsibility for quality assurance of academic programs and will assist the Dean, Professor John Rosenberg, in a number of other major administration and leadership areas.

“It is very exciting to be working in the largest Information Technology faculty in Australia and I look forward to the challenge. Working for Monash again is like coming home.”

Professor Gupta is one of two Australian Fellows of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the world’s oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society, and a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society (ACS).
