The Vice-Chancellor's Ancora Imparo Student Leadership Program

11 July 2005

In today's fast-changing and globalising world, a commitment to social justice, human rights and a sustainable environment, has become increasingly important. To meet this challenge, Monash is endeavouring to equip graduates with the necessary skills and experiences to live, learn, work and contribute globally. The Ancora Imparo Program has been designed to help passionate and idealistic students prepare for future leadership roles. You will have an opportunity to work with other like-minded students and will be provided with an understanding of the visionary and inspirational principles that guide current leaders and have guided leaders in the past.

The Ancora Imparo Program is designed to extend those Monash students with potential who, we anticipate, may be among the leaders of the future. It will involve theoretical and case study components, discussions, debates and seminars on leadership themes. Many of the seminars will be led by distinguished Australian leaders - especially Monash alumni - and you will have the opportunity to meet a range of high profile community leaders. Forty first year students will be chosen annually from those students enrolled at Monash's Australian campuses. However, you will participate in the Program over 12 months during your second year of study at Monash.

Successful applicants will take part in a three-day residential course prior to first semester and attend monthly seminars. The Program is scheduled to commence in February 2006.You should apply for a place in the Ancora Imparo Program during your first year at Monash. You will be asked to provide narrative answers to several questions relating to your interest in and suitability for the Program. You will also be required to provide details about your background, interests and achievements. Provided you meet the minimum eligibility criteria, letters will be sent to two referees supplied by you requesting a confidential letter of reference. Scholarships of $1000 will be awarded to all successful applicants.
