The ACS Foundation has a large number of exciting new Work Integrated Learning (WIL) scholarship opportunities for students.

Unfortunately, sometimes it's hard for us to get the message and understanding across to students of the real value of undertaking these WIL scholarships. It is not only the dollar value of the scholarship, but the real value is the relevant industry experience that the students gain as a result of their scholarship – experience that is relevant both to their studies, to their future careers and landing their first job!!

We have 50 brand new IBM scholarships as well as a raft of others, and are now seeking applications for these scholarships. My advice to potential applicants is to get their applications in early!!! I also advise applicants to submit an application even if there is currently not a scholarship available which meets their exact requirements. If they can tell us what they are seeking then we will try to match them with other opportunities that we are aware of. Often not all the available scholarships are advertised on the web site – similarly to the fact that 70% of all IT jobs are never advertised!!

Even in these times of large numbers of job opportunities, students without relevant industry experience often struggle to get a job when they graduate. Students without work experience can spend up to 12 months, while those students who have that relevant experience are highly sought after. Even worse, those who have not had prior work experience may not get the right job offered to them. Another valuable benefit of the WIL scholarship program is the whole process and becoming more experienced in the job application / interview procedure. In order to encourage more applicants for our WIL scholarships, we are offering a $100 “scholarship bonus” for all successful applicants – that is if you apply for an ACS Foundation WIL scholarship, are offered a scholarship and accept it, then we will provide you with an additional $100 on your scholarship.
