COSI was officially launched by Professor Edwina Cornish, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Monash University on Tuesday 11th September.
The centre contributes to the development of individuals, organisations, and society through research on human-centred design and deployment of information and communication technologies (ICT). COSI focuses on understanding the people and organisational dimensions, the complexities and needs of the social networks that ICT serves, in order to optimise its social, cultural and economic benefits.
Other guest speakers included Assoc Prof Julie Fisher, Prof Sue McKemmish, Mr Ross Gibbs, Director General of the National Archives of Australia, Dr Coralie Jenkin, and Mr Ron Fairchild.
The launch also celebrated Emeritus Professor Don Schauder’s recent appointment, and the establishment of the Jean Whyte Fund. The Fund supports research in librarianship and archives and is sponsored by a bequest from Jean Whyte who was the foundation Professor of Librarianship at Monash.
The event was well attended by COSI staff and students, other Monash colleagues, and industry and community partners. Guests also included colleagues and friends of Don Schauder and Jean Whyte.
