Google comes to the Faculty of IT

On the 23rd of March, Will Blott (Campus Programs Manager), Rick Goodfellow and Casey Whitelaw (Engineering Director) from Google’s Sydney office visited the Faculty of Information Technology’s  Clayton Campus.

Speaking to an audience of over 200 students, Will and Casey described the future direction of Google and the company’s presence in Australia.

The main focus of the presentation was the recruitment and future job prospects for Computer Science and Software Engineering students. Google is developing Computer Engineering centres all over the world and they are growing at a rapid rate. Due to increased demand and expansion of the company, Google’s Sydney Engineering centre is expected to double its technical staff in the next twelve months.

The "Googlers" also described how they manage large amounts of data on a daily basis and their latest online applications.

Will Blott commented that Google Australia was looking to create close relationships with key domestic universities and is keen to explore opportunities and partnerships in the future.
