The IT Industry sings to a different tune, but are you listening?
Olivier Internet Jobs index: 300,000 ads on the net!
The Olivier Job Index released this April shows continued strong growth in Australia's economy as more jobs are advertised. Organisations are looking for new channels to differentiate themselves and to attract the best candidates, but continue to use the internet as a key advertising channel. University graduates are being targeted, especially with Government, Public Service, Defence and Community jobs leading the charge.
The IT sector continues to be a winner. More IT jobs means more demand for quality graduates from internationally reputable institutions. The low numbers in new enrolments in IT courses at Universities for the last few years has resulted in the industry competing to attract the best graduates. Conditions for IT professionals have already improved with signs of higher salaries, more flexibility, opportunities for travel and challenging working environments among them.
According to the Index, the multimedia boom is national, with a massive growth in job ads in NSW over the last 12 months of 177%.
The story is no longer a surprise to most who work in the industry, but the good news is that it has now been sustained for nearly 3 years and looks to continue. Secondary school students and their parents have not been considering IT as a career path for several years now, with much confusion as to what an IT career means. The truth is that there are many exciting opportunities as an IT professional across many industries, and that the flexibility of a quality IT degree gives a young graduate a wealth of options and career paths. Don't just take our word for it, speak with some IT professionals you know.
