Another Monash student awarded internship at IBM India
A PhD student from the Faculty of IT has recently been successful in acquiring a prestigious internship with the IBM Research Laboratory in Bangalore, India.
The 2008 Summer Internship Program in Computer Science, Mathematical Science and Service Science, Management & Engineering is offered in New Delhi and Bangalore. The selected students have the opportunity to work closely with an outstanding research team on challenging problems that range from leading-edge exploratory work to prototyping real-world systems and applications. During the summer internship, the students will also have the opportunity to participate in the dynamic technical environment of the largest Industrial research organisation in the world and network with other top students from many different fields and universities.
Mr Kutila Gunasekera was selected during a later round of assessments for a place in the IBM Internships of 2008. This is now the second prestigious IBM Internship awarded to a Faculty of IT student. Kutila’s Internship Program will be for 12 weeks starting in early July and he will be supervised at IBM by Dr. Shivkumar Kalyanaraman. IBM also provides airfares to/from Australia and a stipend to cover living expenses for Kutila while in India.
After completing his undergraduate and master’s degrees at University of Moratuwa in Sri Lanka, Kutila came to Monash’s Caulfield campus as an international student to continue his studies. Currently he is a second year PhD candidate in the Centre for Distributed Systems and Software Engineering (DSSE) in the Faculty of Information Technology.
He works under the supervision of Associate Professor Arkady Zaslavsky, researching the topic "Context-Aware Compositional Adaptation of Mobile Software Agents in Pervasive Environments". Kutila has recently successfully completed his confirmation of candidature seminar.
At IBM, Kutila will be involved in a project to develop a mobile micro-marketing model and also on a project related to software defined radio. These projects are related to his research interests in mobile and pervasive computing.
Staff at the Faculty of IT extend their congratulations to Kutila on his internship and wish him the best for his future research study.
