Biography

Associate Professor Frada Burstein has been supervising higher degree research students (HDRs) for almost 20 years. Frada encourages her students to do their research, and helps the HDRs in their studies as well as looks after her students' welfare. Should there be a crisis point in students' lives caused by either research problems or private circumstances, Frada is always understanding and supportive. She demonstrates it by finding time for her students to talk about the issues, by discussing potential solutions, and by following up on the students' cases over time.

Frada has a range of experiences dealing with HDR students of various ages and backgrounds. She has a very good understanding of and sympathy for various cultures and backgrounds of her students. Frada is sympathetic with the issues that appear to be a result of cultural or spiritual differences. She always encourages her students to actively communicate with each other, and it creates this unique atmosphere of trust and sympathy between her HDR students.

Her students say, "Dr Frada Burstein is an excellent supervisor who makes a lot of effort with her students, provides great assistance and always has time for her HDRs. Being an excellent supervisor and a great mentor, Frada is very good at practicing what she is researching, i.e. knowledge management and knowledge transfer, and she has been generously sharing her knowledge and time with her students for years now".

Frada's PhD completion rate is close to 100 percent, and her graduated students are employed in senior positions in both academia and industry around the globe.

Also in 2003 she was winner of the MPA Supervisor of the Year Award. Read more
