IBL student at Oxfam

“I chose Monash because the standard of studies is very high and recognised everywhere.”

"Firstly, it is a great institution. Secondly, it's not just the prestige or the Facilities. It's the people to; all the Students and Staff that I've met have been really friendly and down to earth.

"I think my degree has taught me everything it should; the most important things I've learnt haven't been super specific stuff but rather the underlying way of doing things which makes more sense to me, especially when applied to the workforce.

"Another feature that attracted me to this course was the IBL stream. The Faculty of Information Technology offers an Industry Based Learning Program (IBL), which is designed to provide students with graduate level experience while studying at Monash. This is a big opportunity for students to work with big companies and learn new skills while experiencing a real working environment.

"My IBL experience was with Oxfam Australia after my 3rd year studying Bachelor of Science/Computer Science (Double Degree)."

Do you have any other tips that you think would be valuable to know for other IBL students?

"Always act in a professional manner; your supervisor will appreciate it. Be willing to adapt to and jump on any opportunity that comes your way. Always try to be enthusiastic about things!"

The Oxfam placement is the first placement in the not-for-profit sector and it is being financed by the Victorian Government and the industry partners of the Faculty of IT.
