Opening Digital Doorways is a joint Australian-South African program researching the innovative use of ICT for social inclusion and community development in South Africa and remote Indigenous communities in Australia. Within Australia, Monash University is seeking to establish "model" installations of Digital Doorways in a number of Australian Indigenous communities where the support of Indigenous elders has been obtained to explore the technology and related applications, and in particular the ways in which it might empower communities. This session will provide an overview of the Digital Doorway and its use in South Africa to date, as well as an overview of a number of projects being considered in Australia and the Pacific Islands. There will be an opportunity for ‘hands on' use of the unit at the end of the session. |
