The MCG

The MCG in 1854.

Lord’s, Wembley, Old Trafford, Eden Gardens and Yankee Stadium are considered among the greatest sporting arenas in the world, but for history, pure drama and emotion, it’s hard to look past the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The MCG has established a marvellous history that compares favourably with any other in the world, hosting plenty of international cricket including the first-ever Test and the 1992 World Cup final, countless VFL/AFL Grand Finals, and the 1956 Olympic Games.

People from all over Australia, and indeed all over the world, speak reverently about the MCG, a ground that is as well known as any other.

But backstage, the MCG Tour gives the visitor the opportunity to relive their great sporting memories through a comprehensive tour of this marvellous stadium, where so many champions of yesterday and today have performed.

ACIS 2009 delegates will take part in the magical MCG Tour…come along and you will get to walk out onto one of the greatest ovals in the world., and more.

The Melbourne Cricket Ground is located on the junction between inner-city Melbourne suburbs Richmond and East Melbourne.

The MCG is situated in Yarra Park, bordered by Brunton Avenue, Jolimont Street and Jolimont Terrace.

Since 1861, the National Gallery of Victoria has been displaying art works for the enjoyment of the community. The Collection is split between The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia at Federation Square, home of Australian art, and NGV International at St Kilda Road, the redeveloped building dedicated to the gallery's magnificent international artworks. Our visitors have two wonderful NGV buildings dedicated to bringing art and people together.

ACIS 2009 delegates will enjoy relaxed cocktails in the sculpture garden, followed by a tour of the current exhibitions at NGV. Guests will then proceed to the Great Hall for the formal conference dinner.
