Maya 3D Competition 2005

Open Category Competition

The Maya 3D Competition (Open Category) has one entry option:

  1. Short Animation (maximum length of 3 minutes)

All entries must be created using either Maya PLE (Personal Learning Edition) which can be downloaded from the Alias website http://www.alias.com or the full version of Maya.

Specifications

Who?
Due to popular demand we have created a new Open Category, this is open to all Australian Residents who do not attend a Secondary College or TAFE. These entries must be from Individuals and not private and public institutions or companies. These entries should not be marked or labelled by private and public institutions or companies.

If you are attending University or a private institution, or just good at 3D, you may enter but your entry must be from you.

When?
Final Submission cut off date will be the Wednesday 2nd November 2005.

Deliverable

Option 1: Short Animation
A short animation built in Alias Maya PLE or Maya. Both Maya files and AVI files should be supplied on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM as final submission. The clip can also be sent in on mini DV tape. The maximum length of the animation is 3 minutes. All submissions should be named accordingly with participant information on the official entry form.

Please send an email to Andrew.Owen@infotech.monash.edu with your name (or all names if entering as a team), name of teacher, year level and school. This will help us to better administer your entry near the submission dead line.

Judging Process

The judging of the competition will be undertaken by members of the Multimedia Industry and not Monash University. All entries will be judged during November 2005 with the results being published on the Faculty of Information Technology website http://www.infotech.monash.edu in early November 2005.

Criteria for Short Animation

  • Original story or concept
  • Original character/model design
  • Maximum 3 minutes duration of animation
  • Standard screen size (no smaller then 800 x 600)
  • AVI format
  • Creative and appropriate use of audio

2nd Prize

  • 2nd Place Trophy
  • 2nd Place Certificate

  • 3rd Place Trophy
  • 3rd Place Certificate
  • iPOD Video 30GB

The winning entries will be notified and will receive prizes as soon as the judging process is complete and have their work showcased at the Berwick School of Information Technology 2005 exhibition at Federation Square.

BSIT 2005 Exhibition

The Berwick School of Information Technology 2005 Exhibition will be held in Melbourne at Federation Square on the 15th of November 2005. This exhibition showcases a variety of works from upcoming graduates of the Bachelor of Multimedia Systems degree offered by BSIT. Information about the exhibition can be accessed from the Events page.

Our Role

Despite running the competition, The Faculty of Information Technology will only take an administrative role. No technical or software support will be offered by the Faculty and it is expected that students will use their own research methods to locate support materials for any software or technical issues that may arise.
