Pathways into research programs

Applicants wishing to gain entry to a research degree with the Faculty of Information Technology must hold an undergraduate degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, and have some previous research experience. The following are the most common pathways:

  2. the equivalent to a distinction average (H2A or 70%) in a four-year bachelors degree in IT or relevant discipline, and which normally includes a research component in the fourth year, or
  3. a three-year bachelors degree in IT or relevant discipline, and 24 points of a recognised masters by coursework degree with at least a distinction average (70%), provided they can produce other evidence of research potential (for example, authorship of publications, experience in research and research training in previous degrees, industry experience in research and/or development projects can be considered) or
  4. qualifications and research experience, which in the opinion of the Faculty Higher Degree Research Committee are equivalent or a satisfactory substitute.
