Pathways into research programs

Applicants wishing to gain entry to a research degree with the Faculty of Information Technology must hold a bachelors degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, and have some previous research experience. The most common pathways for a student to gain entry are following the completion of either:

    1. An Honours degree (1 year) with a grade of H1 or H2A. For a list of all Honours year grades see the Monash University grading scale policy.
    2. A Masters (Minor thesis) (1.5 years). The completed minor thesis must be worth a minimum of 50% of the final grade with an outcome of H1 or H2A.

The following diagram depicts the typical pathways into FIT research degrees, ie. Masters (Research) and PhD.
