Honours year
No further intake from 2006 onwards. This degree has been replaced by the Honours degree of Bachelor of Business Information Systems.
A Bachelor of Business Systems (Hons) degree provides you with an extremely valuable year of study and opens up many more career opportunities than a straight Bachelors degree. The Honours program in Business Systems aims to inform and train students in the issues of analysis, design, development and application of information technology tools to business management.
Honours students are sought after by employers and can choose the more interesting options of research and development positions, because of their enhanced skills and proven abilities. An honours degree also naturally leads on to postgraduate study that is essential for a career in research and development.
Admission requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor of Business Systems degree or equivalent qualification. Applicants must obtain at least a 65% mark on average for all final year subjects undertaken for their Bachelor degree.
Application forms are available from the Faculty Office or can be downloaded from the Faculty website.
Applications close in November for a Semester 1 start and in June for a Semester 2 start.
Once you have received an offer into the Honours Program the Faculty will advise you on details regarding enrolment and you will be required to consult with the Honours Co-ordinator to confirm your enrolment for the year. You will also be required to attend an Honours information session were you will be briefed on the expectations of the Honours year and be given guidelines on the thesis component of the program.
Honours thesis topics are varied and cover a multitude of areas from electronic data interchange to a frame work for the application of multimedia techonology to enhance the learning of Victoria Police Drug Investigators.
Course structure and deliverables
It is expected that the Bachelor of Business Systems (Hons) degree course be completed in one year. As part of this course each Honours student must undertake and complete three coursework units and a substantial individual research project (equivalent to five coursework units). Of the three coursework units, students must undertake BUS5000 and two other units at a 4000, 5000 or 9000 level.
Students are also required to do a 20 minute Honours Presentation which forms part of their overall research project assessment.
To be awarded an Honours qualification students enrolled in Bachelor of Business Systems (Hons) must achieve an overall weighted average of at least 65% for their Honours studies.
Duration
Honours is usually undertaken full-time over one year. However, in special circumstances, it may be possible to do Honours part-time. Honours is usually undertaken from the start of the academic year, however places may be offered to a small number of students to start Honours mid-year.
