Our Aims
CoolCampus aims to investigate the form, function and role of pervasive computing environments involving advanced technologies such as wireless communication, wearable and handheld computers, smart spaces, smartcards, etc., in empowering university students and staff in their day to day activities.
The project has a number of specific objectives. It will:
- provide a challenging and relevant focus for existing research in pervasive computing environments within the Faculty of Information Technology and more broadly within Monash University and beyond;
- provide opportunities for Monash students and staff to see and experience a technology-based future where information will be made available wherever and whenever it is needed through the provision of many usable research prototypes and demonstration applications;
- create synergy from collaboration between academic researchers and groups within Monash University responsible for providing administrative and academic services to students and staff such as the Library, Student and Staff Services, Information Technology Services, the Centre for Learning and Teaching Support, etc.;
- provide opportunities for engagement and collaboration with organisations interested in pervasive computing environments and their impact on university life;
- have a well-developed community outreach program including facilities for individuals, businesses, schools and community groups to visit CoolCampus facilities and view demonstrations of future technology applied to a the Monash environment. This will assist such groups to appreciate the opportunities for Australia created by a technology-based future.
