Philosophy

The CoolCampus philosophy is intended to be inclusive and open. The aim is to establish a vehicle for connecting and supporting Monash’s research and development activities associated with using advanced technology to support the activities of Monash students and staff.

CoolCampus will not be directly involved in developing or deploying new technology, systems or software for the University as this is the role of other groups within Monash. However, CoolCampus will investigate how new technology, systems and software may be used to better support Monash students and staff members in their day to day activities. CoolCampus will produce research prototypes demonstrating the feasibility of new ideas and approaches, which may or may not be developed and deployed by other parts of the University.

While research is a major focus of CoolCampus, the development of working prototypes is also seen as an important objective. A number of courses offered by the Faculty of Information Technology have a project component where groups of students develop small scale systems for clients. CoolCampus will encourage undergraduate project groups to develop CoolCampus demonstration systems by defining suitable projects and making the required hardware and software resources available to project teams.
