Industry experience projects Gippsland school of Information Technology

As well as our third year industry projects internships are also offered by GSIT. Students have the opportunity to gain industry experience and knowledge while obtaining their degree. Their internship is often counted as a 6 point unit towards a students degree. Specialised assessment tasks are completed through the internship to ensure academic learning objectives are met. Below is a list of some recent internships and the types of work conducted.

Cardax Remote Update

  • A smartcard system entitled Cardax has been implemented, which controls both vehicle and personnel site access.
  • Cardax operates from a backend database where it stores all card holders and cards.
  • To read from this database a familiar access function is used that is similar to all databases. However to write to the Cardax Database, XML is instead used where its custom tags and separators refer to the relevant Cardax tables and fields for updating. This works fine if the XML is executed from the server, however the operation is denied if the code is executed remotely. Until a solution can be found it was held that XML would be executed from the server, and the user would log into the desktop via a remote client.
