How to apply

1. Bachelor of Business Information Systems

There are two intakes into industry based learning:

  • About half the scholarships will be awarded to students before they start the degree in December 2008 prior to the VTAC change of preference closing date.
  • The balance of the scholarships will be released towards the end of the first year of study at Monash.

Pre-admission

To apply for the pre-admission release of industry based learning scholarships, complete the application form below and submit to the faculty of information technology by Friday, 12 December, 2008.

Approximately 50 year 12 applicants will be invited to interviews on Thursday, 18 December, 2008. The interview outcomes will be confirmed the day after the interview, and students will be offered IBL scholarships subject to admission to the degree through the VTAC admissions process.

2nd Intake

The second intake of students into industry based learning is determined in December each year after the completion of the first year at Monash. Eligible students will be invited to submit an application and attend interviews conducted by the industry partners. To be invited to apply, students must be of good conduct and have:

  1. Completed all seven core 1st year units and one Business and Economics elective as described in the course map.
  2. Passed every unit undertaken in first year.
  3. Maintained at least a credit average across all units studied in first year.
  4. Students who have failed one unit in semester 1 may still be invited to apply if they have re-enrolled and passed the unit in semester 2.

All eligible local first year students will be automatically assessed for the 2nd intake.

2. Bachelors of Computer Science, Information Technology and Systems, and Software Engineering

Admission to industry based learning will take place at the completion of the first year of study. Eligible students will be invited to submit an application and attend interviews conducted by the industry partners. To be invited to apply, students must be of good conduct and have:

  1. Completed all core 1st year units as described in the relevant degree.
  2. Passed every unit undertaken in first year.
  3. Maintained at least a distinction average across all units studied in first year.
  4. Students who have failed one unit in semester 1 may still be invited to apply if they have re-enrolled and passed the unit in semester 2.

All eligible local first year students will be automatically assessed for industry based Learning. Students must have satisfied course progression requirements and unit pre-requisites.

Due to Australian government regulations industry based learning is currently not available to international students.

Interviews and Selection

Admission to industry based Learning is based on interviews conducted by industry partners of the program. The assessment criteria used at the interviews include communication skills, maturity, enthusiasm, initiative, leadership qualities, extra curricular activities and participation, academic performance, career interests and personal employment history.
