The Faculty covers the whole IT spectrum from engineering to social science. Our research is multi-disciplinary, multi-campus and multi-national, providing Monash University with a unique capacity to reach out further and deeper than any other institution in Australia.

Our researchers specialise in computing science, software engineering, information systems, and information and knowledge management. They conduct their research through our world-class research centres and specialised groups.

Information Technology research at Monash was ranked at world standard in the 2010 ARC Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) Initiative.


Monash leads the way in eResearch and in the development of eResearch infrastructure. The Faculty of IT plays a major role, collaborating closely with the Monash e-Research Centre (MeRC),

The Faculty is renowned for its Nimrod software, a family of tools that support eResearch. Nimrod has been deployed nationally on the Australian Partnership for Advanced Computing Grid, and also in leading research sites in USA, UK, South America and Europe.

Our collaborative e-Research partners include: California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology; Oxford e-Research Centre; San Diego Supercomputing Center; and the University of Amsterdam.
