András J. Riedlmayer directs the Documentation Centre of the Aga Khan Program for Islamic Architecture at Harvard's Fine Arts Library. A speicalist in the history and culture of the Balkans, he has spent much of the past decade documenting the destruction of archives, libraries and other cultural heritage during the wars in Bosnia-Herzegovina (1992-1995) and Kosovo (1998-1999).

In addition to presenting the story of what happened to archives, records offices, and other cultural property in the Balkan wars of the 1990s (Croatia, Bosnia, Kosovo), Andras will also address some legal issues (international humanitarian law as it touches on cultural property) and some of the practical concerns of archivists and records managers in time of armed conflict.

This research seminar is proudly presented by the Records Management Association of Australasia in collaboration with the Australian Society of Archivists Inc. and COSI, the Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics, Monash University.
