Research on the characteristics of systems that support strategic decision making and the faithful tracking of organisational states and events. The research has an enterprise level focus.

Research areas: Personal decision support, executive information systems, ERP systems, inter-organisational systems, data warehousing, customer relationship management, corporate performance management and business intelligence.
 
Centre for Distributed Systems and Software Engineering (DSSE)
Research on the foundations, methods, tools and environments for conceptualising, modelling, analysing, developing, maintaining and benchmarking large parallel, distributed and pervasive systems.

Research areas: GRID tools, e-Science, parallel computation, wireless solutions, mobile applications, software engineering platforms, multi-agent systems, context-aware intelligent environments, pervasive computing systems, high-performance computational infrastructure, distributed data management, sensor networks, service-oriented architectures, middleware, mobile networks, ubiquitous computing.
 
Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics (COSI)
Research on systems that support the development of individuals, organisations and society through human-centred design, and deployment of information and communications technologies.

Research areas: Knowledge management, information technology management, information systems development, archival systems, e-commerce and m-commerce, community networking, librarianship and computing education.
 
Centre for Research in Intelligent Systems (CRIS)
Research to improve the intelligence of computational systems and processes, including both artificial and natural computation.

Research areas: Bayesian reasoning, complex systems, computer vision, constraint-based graphics, constraint programming, data mining, diagram interpretation and understanding, machine learning, natural computation, natural language processing, neural networks, optimisation, reasoning under uncertainty, robotics and user modelling.
 
Centre for Multimedia Computing, Communications and Applications Research (MCCAR)
Research on multimedia signal processing and management, innovative compression techniques, multimedia features for effective and efficient indexing and retrieval, and innovative multimedia applications.

Research areas: Medical image processing, digital library, remote surveillance, network resource management, mobile communications, emerging technologies such as wireless sensor and mesh networks and innovative applications in learning, business, games, archaeology and art.
