This collaborative research project focuses around the concept of the ecosystem and its relevance to and application in generative electronic art.
The concept of the ecosystem is the corner stone of theoretical ecology and refers to an interactive system that is established between a set of organisms and abiotic components in a particular place.
The overarching rationale of the project is that the processes that drive the phenomenal diversity observed in biological ecosystems could be fruitfully applied in electronic media arts. In broad terms, we aim to develop and illustrate the use of novel approaches that contribute to existing biologically-inspired computing methods for the arts.
Design After Nature is funded by a Discovery Project Grant from the Australian Research Council.

This web site documents the thoughts and workings of the project team.
