About the Information Systems Development Group
ISD Research group aims are:
- To develop and disseminate a comprehensive understanding of the major issues relating to the information systems development process irrespective of platform.
- To conduct research into the different systems development methodologies thereby improving understanding of different methodologies and their application. This includes understanding the issues relating to incorporating in systems development methodologies, the views, values and needs of all stakeholders.
- Better understand the contribution diversity makes to IT development teams and how we can improve diversity particularly in relation to the number of women in the industry.
- To investigate issues closely related to the development of effective systems such as usability, human factors and the involvement of other professionals in the development process.
- To better understand, through research why systems fail.
- To contribute to the development of curriculum leading to graduates who are better equipped to undertake the task of developing effective information systems.
- To develop methodologies for building and evaluating multimedia systems including learning strategies, learning processes and system interfaces.
- To investigate effective collaboration and its importance in systems development.
Background
The ISD Research group was established in 2001 when it was recognised that until that point there had been no research group specifically focusing on systems development and methodologies. The ISD research team is complimentary to, but different from other research groups within the Centre for Organisational and Social Informatics. For example the Knowledge Management (KM) research group has a strong focus on how specific applications in KM can be used for more effectively, the underlying issues however of how these systems are developed is of interest to be ISD group.
