Major Question:
Two interconnected research questions are guiding the research:
Are there demonstrable interrelationships between the introduction of organisational KM programs/ implementation of knowledge technologies and organisational performance outcomes within complex organisational environments?
Does it appear that positive performance outcomes of KM programs are contingent on the presence of certain facilitating conditions, and on the elimination or reduction of particular hindering forces? If so, what are the factors that promote, and those that constrain, effective KM programs in organisations?
Aims:
The research project is taking an organisational and management perspective on possible interrelationships between the introduction of knowledge management programs/implementation of knowledge technologies in organisations and organisational performance outcomes. It seeks to explore organisational experiences with knowledge management, and to analyse facilitating and constraining factors in the organisational environment. It is proposed to develop a conceptual model to predict organisational performance outcomes of KM programs; to test and refine this model through organisational case study and survey; and to use insights gained from the research to develop guidelines for managers on how to optimise organisational performance outcomes from KM programs.
