Published by: Centre for Information Studies, Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, 2005

This book explores the role of archives in various cultural, organisational and historical contexts and introduces established and emerging concepts in archival science. It explains the foundation idea of the ‘trace’, then document, record, archive and archives, and sets these within the conceptual framework of the records continuum. Other themes are archival institutions, the recordkeeping profession, the relationship between evidence and memory in archival discourse, accountability, and societal and juridical power.
