Research highlights

Industry and community engagement

At the Faculty of IT, we value the commercial relevance of our research. So we place a strong emphasis on engaging with industry and community.

We work closely with business, government and community organisations on a regular basis – within Australia and internationally.

Our researchers conduct fundamental research that applies to many different aspects of IT. Our research strengths include:

  • intelligent systems
  • distributed systems and software engineering
  • organisational and social informatics
  • optimisation in travel, transport and logistics
  • and multimedia computing, communications and applications.

Prestige in IT research

Our research staff and students often publish their work in prestigious journals. They also present at conferences all over the world.

In addition, we have many collaborative links to universities and organisations overseas. Through our esteemed innovation and respected core research skills, we add value to projects around the globe.

Success stories

Our researchers work hard to solve IT problems for industry and the community.

One success story comes from our ‘constraints and optimisation' researchers. They have used Constraint Programming (CP) to improve airline efficiency. This has solved large-scale scheduling problems for the aviation industry.

Other successful projects include the development of Smart health Information Portals (SIPs). Working with health groups, our researchers can now offer healthcare consumers access to quality, reliable, and relevant information.
