The Bachelor of Business Systems degree at Monash University in the Faculty of IT was Cheryn Lee's launching pad into a professional career, marked by opportunity and development.  Cheryn commenced the degree in 2004, after gaining a place on the Industry-based learning program.  The combination of real-work experience and business/IT academic study offered appealed to her.

After completing her first year and a half of university, Cheryn went on to complete two very different six-month IBL placements; the first at leading IT corporation, IBM, and the second at Australia’s leading fertilizer company, Incitec Pivot Limited. At IBM, Cheryn was employed as a Sales Operations Analyst and was responsible for the generation of reports for varying levels of management within the sales team.  She was also assigned two projects that extended her placement to include more technically challenging deliverables.  At Incitec Pivot Limited, Cheryn got involved in project-based work and was given the opportunity to lead different phases of projects, such as testing and training.

The dissimilar nature of the two placements allowed Cheryn to gain a perspective of the IT industry and assisted in her professional and personal growth.  Her ability to leverage her industry experiences helped her through the competitive graduate recruitment process resulting in a number of job offers from leading companies such as Accenture, GE Money, IBM, KPMG and NAB. Cheryn accepted an offer from GE Money into its Information Management Leadership Program, a two-year program comprising of four six-month rotational assignments - one of which may be internationally based.  Each rotation aims to give graduates an accelerated development through exposure to multiple technologies and divisions within the business.

“The industry-based learning program provided me with the opportunity to adapt my studies to corporate situations, helping to distinguish me from other candidates during graduate recruitment," said Cheryn. "Everything I learned through Business Systems has facilitated my transition into a career at GE Money.”

* The Bachelor of Business Systems is the previous form of the  Bachelor of Business Information Systems .
