Huan Vo-Tran now works as a Coordinator of Year 9 Learning at Caroline Springs College in Melbourne. His previous role was the eLearning Coordinator.
"Apart from having a dedicated IT faculty, it was the studio or project component of the course which attracted me to IT at Monash. It incorporated the knowledge from the other core subjects into a practical application. It was run in a similar way to the integrated learning curriculum that I teach now," said Huan.
"I found one of the most interesting and stimulating projects was in my final year when in teams, we built a Wide Area Network Monitoring System for a 'real life' client - a multinational organisation. This particular project challenged us and pushed us to a greater level of understanding and professionalism.
"The best aspects of studying IT at Monash were the studio environment, the state of the art equipment, the staff that were always professional and willing to help out at any time, and the friendships I made during my time at Monash.
"Some special activities with which I was involved, were assisting new students to settle into life at Monash; and tutoring final year studio and Human Computer Interaction classes.
"After completing my IT courses at Monash, I continued on to complete a Diploma of Education (also at Monash). I was subsequently offered a teaching scholarship from the Department of Education and Training and now work full time as a High School teacher.
"The skills that I was taught in my IT degrees have been fully transferable into the teaching profession. I am now the Year 9 Learning Team Leader at my school.
"My advice for students considering studying IT at Monash would be to just follow your passion, you won't regret it."
