Luke Twomey was looking for a degree that combined both the technical and analytical approaches to IT. He found it in the Bachelor of Information Systems that turned out to be the ideal configuration for his needs.
“What separated the Bachelor of Information Systems from any other Information Technology degree is that there are studio classes. These Studio sessions provided me with experiences that are as close to real work situations as you can get.
“The final year of studio work included a real life client that was a fantastic experience in itself. With this project we created a real system which took the whole year to complete and we also presented the system and our work to clients at the end of the job,” said Luke.
State-of-the-art facilities
“Caulfield offers students exclusive 24/7 access to state-of-the-art computer labs and very ‘cool’ studios – which simulate an industry environment. We had access through swipe cards, which was a real privilege, and we could enjoy Internet café convenience, as well as many endless cups of great coffee and interesting discussions.
“I found everyone at Caulfield was very friendly, open and helpful – which made study and university life a real pleasure. All the academics I studied with went out of their way to help me, which was and is really fantastic,” he said.
Information professional
Luke graduated in 2002 and chose to continue his study at Caulfield with a Masters degree. He has found that the level of professionalism, academic excellence and level of support has continued at the Postgraduate level.
“I am extremely pleased that I chose Monash University for my IT studies; I feel that Monash really is a leader in the IT field. With my undergraduate and postgraduate study, I am confident that I will be more than qualified for any Information Systems and Information Management position in the world of IT anywhere around the globe – which is a really great feeling,” said Luke.
*The Bachelor of Information Systems is the previous form of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems with a major in Systems development.
