Bachelor of Information Systems *

Nirlep Khaira

Nirlep Khaira chose to study the Bachelor of Information Systems because of the broad range of disciplines and skills that are required for Information Technology graduates in today’s workplace.

“In the BIS course, we had access to an abundance of wisdom and real encouragement from the whole Caulfield team, as we faced up to real life and business situations in our project work. Over and over again I find that these skills and attributes help me on a daily basis with the work I do now,” said Nirlep.

Giving back to the community

Ms Khaira is currently working for the Victorian government in the Corporate Services area at the Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development.

“My current role is an IT graduate position where I will continue to develop my skills for the next two years, mainly focusing on Lotus Notes development. I selected this position because it enables me to give something back to the Victorian community, which for me is a very important aspect of the work I do.

“I know that the knowledge and experience I’ve gained through the BIS course at Caulfield is incredibly valuable, and will definitely stand me in good stead throughout my career,” she said.

Practical solutions for real situations

Nirlep is continuing her studies on a part-time basis with the Master of Information Management and Systems at Caulfield. She believes that her academic progress to date, and the skills and expertise she has developed since undertaking both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, have equipped her well for roles in the ever-changing IT industry.

Both courses encourage self-direction and professionalism, and provide students with plenty of exposure to group work in the unique studio environment at the School. Here, students are given the opportunity to build on the theoretical foundations of the studies, while still delivering practical solutions for real clients in real business situations. I feel that this is one of the great benefits of the BIS, it has certainly helped me in both my studies and my career,” said Nirlep.

* The Bachelor of Information Systems is the previous form of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems with a major in Systems development.
