"Network computing* is a great area to work in. There are exciting opportunities worldwide. After completing my Bachelors degree at Peninsula, I moved onto an Honours program, and then I completed my PhD. My area of specialization is mobile computing – I developed a software platform for mobile agents that works on wireless handheld devices, such as PDAs and mobile phones. The agents can do things for users, such as online shopping, database retrieval, and gathering information from Web sites. It’s a brand new area that could change the way we communicate and work.
"My research has led me to a very exciting opportunity at British Telecom (BT) research labs in England. At BT I am working as a research scientist to exploit the use of agent technology for developing leading edge wireless applications for a mobile workforce. This project involves many companies from all over Europe, such as Siemens in Germany and Nokia in Finland. Sales people and people who travel around a lot when they work, such as phone and utility service people, will use the applications on handheld devices.
* The Bachelor of Network Computing is the previous form of the Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems (with a major in Net-centric Computing).
