Assignment handling policy / procedure

For students of the former School of Information Management and Systems

Assignment coversheets

  • All assignments must be submitted with a signed individual or group or off-campus learning (OCL) assignment coversheet, which must be the first page of the assignment.
  • Electronically-submitted assignments must include a signed coversheet. These coversheets can be submitted in person, by mail, by fax or by email (with electronic signature or as scanned PDF file).
  • Assignments submitted without a fully completed, signed coversheet, will not be marked.

Group assignments

  • Group assignments will only be held under the one group member's name nominated on the group assignment coversheet.
  • Group assignments will not be accepted unless one group member is nominated in the specified area.

Assignment presentation

  • Assignments are to be stapled or spiral bound only and must not be submitted in plastic sleeves or plastic folders. Assignments submitted on disks must be attached to assignment coversheet.

Assignment submission

  • Assignments should be submitted in class during semester (or as instructed in unit outline). Outside of semester periods assignments are to be submitted via the assignment pigeonholes (Building S, Level 7).
  • Off-campus unit coordinators are to advise students of assignment submission details via unit outlines. The method of submission will be left to the discretion of the individual unit co-ordinators.
  • Assignments must not be submitted directly to the Frontdesk and please note that it is School policy not to date/time stamp assignments.
  • It is the responsibility of each student to retain a copy of his or her assignment.

Assignment collection

  • Assignments will be returned in class during semester (unless stated otherwise by the unit coordinator).
  • Outside of semester periods assignments will be made available for collection from the Front desk.
  • Students who are unable to collect assignments on campus can request for their assignments to be returned by mail.

Assignment collection from Front desk

  • Marked assignments will be available for collection from the Frontdesk (Building S, Level 7) between 9.00 - 5.00pm, Monday to Friday.
  • A student ID card must be produced in order for assignment to be collected.
  • Assignments will not be returned to anyone other than the author of the assignment.
  • If the assignment is a group assignment, then only the nominated group member is permitted to collect a group assignment.

Assignment collection via mail

  • Students wishing to have their assignments returned by mail must provide a stamped ($1.25c for local returns), self-addressed, A4 sized envelope at the time of submission.
  • Assignments will not be returned by mail if an envelope is not provided at this time.

Storage of assignments

  • If assignments are uncollected, they will be stored at the SIMS admin area and culled after 12 months (see Monash General Disposal Schedule guidelines).
  • Assignments will be stored in student ID number order by unit code. Group assignments will be stored under the student ID number of the group member nominated on the assignment coversheet. Only the nominated group member is permitted to collect a group assignment.
