The Cyber Operations group within the Defence Signals Directorate (DSD) would like to make the Faculty of Information Technology and students aware of a new and exciting recruiting campaign currently being run by DSD in the field of cyber operations.
Cyber Operations are looking for passionate technical people who are interested in:
- Programming in high and low level languages
- Responding to incidents on critical networks
- Computer forensics to help find the really bad guys
- System administration to support our specialist networks
- Penetration testing, including tool and exploit development
- Software reverse engineering for malware analysis
- Computer and network vulnerability analysis and discovery
- Secure system and network architecture design and risk management
The campaign will run from July to September, with electronic applications closing on 17 August 2008. During September, DSD will host a fully-paid 2 day assessment centre in Canberra for those applicants found suitable during the first phase. This will also give applicants an opportunity to meet Cyber Operations staff and see the exciting range of work available at DSD.

Graduate Recruitment Event: 30th July
During your course of study, it is very important to be planning for when you graduate and enter the workforce. The Faculty runs many different types of events to help you learn how to present and how to develop your networks, as well as what is on offer in industry. Some of these events are part of your course, such as in studio projects, or industry projects, or industry-based learning placements. Other event include industry functions where representatives from top IT professional employers come to speak to you and to meet you.
This is one such event! Come along to hear representatives from Hudson recruitment (one of the most important recruitment agencies for IT professionals in Australia), Accenture and Microsoft, speak to you and meet them at our Caulfield campus next week. These organisations will talk about graduate programs they run, among other things. Graduate Programs form a vital element in attracting the best talent, as do these events, for the world’s largest and best ICT organisations.
This seminar is designed to inform and help you to understand the value and benefits of best practice Graduate Programs.
Successful candidates report that their careers have been fast tracked and income needs been met and exceeded as some of the tangible benefits of participating in Graduate Programs.

ACER is a national independent research and development organisation of about 260 staff. We are seeking an Indigenous IT undergraduate who would like to gain paid experience in the Desktop Support or Software Development areas. The cadetship is offered under the National lndigenous Cadetship Program (NICP) and provides for paid work placements of 12 weeks for every 12 month period.
In 2008 ACER has a cadetship opportunity for an IT undergraduate currently in their second year of study and will have completed their second year of study by the end of 2008.
Work Placements
The 12 week paid work placements will be offered over the December 2008 - February 2009 and December 2009 - December 2010 periods following completion of the academic year.
During the 12 week work placements there will be an opportunity to work in either Desktop Support or Software Engineering, depending on the strengths and interests of the cadet. There will be support provided by experienced members of the IT team to learn about the operating environment and to develop skills in order to confidently pick up a range of tasks.
A mentor will also be nominated to assist the cadet during the 12 week placement.
Financial assistance
As a cadet you will receive a study allowance payment throughout the cadetship. For more information on study allowance payments, visit www.nicp.dewr.gov.au.
Terms of appointment
The successful applicant will be required to complete and sign a National Indigenous Cadetship Agreement.
The cadet will be located in our Camberwell office for the 12 week work placements.
The Cadetship is expected to commence in July 2008, subject to approval from the NICP.
