Applying for Intermission (leave of absence)

Local students are able to apply for intermission via WES. The Enrolments Section provides general information for students wishing to apply for intermission.

If you intend taking intermission please complete and submit an Application for Intermission with your School office or via WES. Students who are taking intermission for only one semester should still select units for the remaining semester. This is particularly important for undergraduate Commonwealth supported (HECS) students who are taking intermission for semester 1 and are intending to return to study in semester 2. These students must re-enrol for semester 2 to ensure that a commonwealth supported (HECS) place in that semester is kept for them.

Students undertaking a thesis component and who wish to take an intermission or seek a thesis extension must complete an Application for Intermission from Coursework Studies, available from School offices. The form must specify the dates for the intermission and or thesis extension and must be approved by the research co-ordinator or Head of School. The completed form must be attached to the re-enrolment form when it is submitted.

Students who are on intermission for only semester one should still enrol in units for semester two.

International students are only allowed to take intermission in extreme circumstances and only on compassionate grounds. You should contact your School office and the International Admissions Office for advice regarding intermission.
