Welcome to the Faculty of Information Technology!

Professor Ron Weber

"Information Technology touches all aspects of our lives. We use technology to make life easier and more enjoyable, as well as to make our work more efficient and save costs to remain competitive.

"IT professionals have available a wealth of exciting and varied careers. They must understand the complex, challenging problems faced by business, government, and society, and they must develop solutions to help resolve these problems. Moreover, IT professionals operate in a rapidly evolving landscape, where technology capabilities grow exponentially and organisations depend more on IT for their survival. As a result, employers compete aggressively to attract and retain the best IT graduates. Increasingly, IT also provides the means for individuals to realise their entrepreneurial ambitions.

"Whichever Monash IT degree you have chosen to undertake, you will develop a solid foundation of knowledge and skills across all major IT disciplines. You will be able to adapt and respond to rapid change. You will also be equipped for continuous learning and to meet new challenges. During your studies, you can further specialise according to your interests, and you will learn how to develop and manage IT projects in different contexts. Your student experience at Monash also focuses on refining your interpersonal and communications skills. It provides you with opportunities to obtain practical experience that will make you job-ready and a valuable asset to any employer.

"I hope you will enjoy your study at the Faculty of Information Technology, Monash University."
