Travel Procedures
Postgraduate students travelling overseas on official Monash University business (such as attending a conference) for short terms will be automatically covered by the Group Personal Accident/Corporate Travel Plan policy if they are traveling on authorised Monash business. However, it is recommended that students apply for Overseas Travel Insurance online. Successful Completion of this form will:
- Provide you with a confirmation of cover certificate
- Provide you with an emergency telephone number should you need it overseas
- Automatically provide details of your travel to the Risk and Insurance Office
All PhD students are required to apply for Study-Away with the Monash Research Graduate School.
Postgraduate Travel Grants forms can be found at this URL: http://www.mrgs.monash.edu.au/scholarships/.
For International students it is not necessary to inform DIMIA if the student is absent from Australia for up to 2 weeks attending a conference or on other authorised Monash University business. It is advisable though for any student in this position to carry a letter outlining the reason(s) for the time overseas. If a student is required to be absent for a longer period e.g. 4-6 weeks, then the student should inform DIMIA so this can be noted on system. International students are not covered in relation to Health Insurance according to Overseas Health care Providers when they are out of the country. Students do not need to take intermission if they are traveling overseas for a purpose associated with their course.
In all cases, including Masters by Research, students should consult with their School and the Faculty in relation to any overseas travel in the course of their candidature. International students should still consult Monash International relating to proposed travel overseas.
